A hand-hammered copper vase I acquired in Prague. I can find little concrete information about it, but it was supposedly made for Czech Secessionist architect, Emil Kralik, for one of his commissioned interiors, by the firm Vulcania. It is unsigned, but features exquisite hammering, planishing, chasing, enamel, and dove-tailed joinery. The protrusions near the upper lip are reminiscent of Dirk Van Erp’s “warty” vases and lamps. In terms of design, craftsmanship, and aesthetic, it’s an inspiring piece for me.
